We just can’t get enough of Mad Men, a television show about advertising in the 60s, here at Blair Candy. Many people are pretty surprised to hear how much we love history, but when you think about it, so many popular candies were born out of events in history, such as the funky and psychedelic 60s Candy gum, Fruit Stripe! A great way to celebrate the 60s and have a fun night in is by hosting a Mad Men themed party, and we’ve got the know-how to help you plan it.
Mad Men fashion is one of our favorite parts of watching the show. Stick with a Jackie O./JFK chic and sleek style wardrobe, with men’s hair slicked back and women’s hair in sassy bobs or chignons. Visit your local vintage clothing stores to find affordable 60s-style fashion pieces. Just be sure to have a pack or 60s Candy like Rolos in your purse or pocket!
The Hors d'oeuvres
You’ll want to serve classic 60s dishes, but portion them out into bite-size portions to create appetizer portions of the dishes Don Draper enjoys in Mad Men. Think Creamed Spinach, Golden Potato Gratin, Onion Dip and Chips, and Beef Wellington. Place bowls of 60s candy around that Betty and Peggy would have noshed on, such as Charms Sweet & Sour Lollipops, Swedish Fish, and Banana Split Candy Chews.
Mad Men classic drinks can be easily researched, such as a Dirty Martini, Cuba Libre, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and a Whiskey Sour. Want to stir the drink with a dash of spice? Add in 60s candy Cinnamon Toothpicks and swirl!
We associated The Beatles most with the 60s, but the music in Mad Men features eclectic 60s artists as well, such as Bob Dylan, Jack Jones, James Brown, Sam Cooke, and The Kinks. Create a playlist, turn them up loud, and snack on some Lemon Heads!
